The ‘PSYCHOLOGY Bit’

What is sport psychology?

Psychology addresses what goes on ‘from the neck up’. It links what people think and feel with their emotions, physiology, actions, and performance.

What will the course cover?

Through an interactive group workshop environment, Jo will take you through various psychology principles and practical tools that are designed to build self-awareness, riding confidence, and self-belief. Weekly topics will include recognising where your confidence comes from, utilising individual strengths, effective planning, using imagery, and adopting a ‘can do’ attitude.

The ‘PILATES Bit’

What is pilates?

Pilates is a specific form of matwork exercises that aims to improve flexibility of joints, strengthen posture, and stabilise balance.  Efficient riders utilise each of these elements to apply the correct aids and harmonise with their horse’s movements.

What will the course cover?

Under Sian’s guidance, you will learn practical pilates exercises that target the same systems that are used when you ride; therefore directly influencing your ability to communicate effectively with your horse. Week-on-week, progress in these strength and conditioning movements will prepare you to withstand the physical demands of riding, promoting safer, more enjoyable, and more confident riding.

About Sian

Sian Smith (MACP, MCSP, HPC) has 8 years clinical experience in treating sporting type injuries as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist; supporting rehabilitation as well as injury prevention and performance enhancement. Sian trained with the Australian Physio and Pilates Institute and practices pilates regularly. Sian is keen to help others to achieve the same pilates-inspired performance improvements that she has accomplished on her own horse April, with whom she competes BE and BD.
